Beautiful cup

Cup, 13th century (Great Mongols period, 1206-1634), Glazed Pottery, Persia (present- day Iran) @ the Philadelphia Museum of Art

I recently held a cup at the Clay studio, made by Steven Colby, which reminded me of the Persian one above.

Steven’s pots are wonderful. One of my most often used and cherished pieces of pottery is a yunomi he made. Words for his work: fresh, humble, & smart. I am looking forward to seeing what he makes post grad school!

Morton Livingston Schamberg (1881-1918)

"Painting VIII Mechanical Abtraction", Morton Livingston Schamberg (1881-1918)

I had not heard of Schamberg before seeing this painting. This NY times article shed some light on his person.

This is a fantastic image from an article in the late “Modern Mechanix” Magazine. View the entire article here: Modern Mechanix. I believe things come into our lives with the potential to be as equally good as bad; It’s just a matter of how we choose to use them.

The Venus Project

Perhaps a bit utopian but, certainly, Jauque Fresco has designed a world I’d like for my family. If your interested in his ideas I suggest reading his book, “The Best That Money Can’t Buy”

Ceramics Monthly Studio Visit

I really do love this studio and am happy to share this link to my Article on the Ceramic Arts Daily website (original article in Nov. issue of CM)!

Rebecca Chappel on the cover

Rebecca Chappell has a nice spot light in this issue. It's been incredible to see her work evolve since she's been here in Philly. The piece on the cover is a part of a larger installation titled "Red Carpet", which was a part of her fellowship show at The Clay Studio.

Beautiful, best show I have seen in a while.

"Red Carpet"

Like flying over a dense forrest and wondering whats underneath..This work is delightfully playful and admirably experimental.

These a truly celebratory works!

"Centerpiece"

Rebecca’s understanding of color and how objects relate to one another was clearly represented in this piece. And, all of her works are extremely well crafted, while remaining fresh and gestural.
